According to a 2013 Pew Research article, six in ten American women say they sometimes wear a headscarf. That same article states that 36 percent say they wear it when they go out in public.
Hijabi women in the United States may face racial discrimination. According to an ACLU study, an expert found that 69 percent of hijabi women reported at least one act of discrimination, whereas for non-hijabi Muslim women the rate stands at 29 percent.
This is best shown by the previously mentioned Pew Research article about discrimination against the headscarf in the workplace. A hijabi woman was fired from Abercrombie & Fitch, the article states, because the company thought her hijab would diminish customer purchases.
